Computer / Electronics

There are many causes of electronic equipment failure including design errors, workmanship, improper handling, etc. These can be introduced at any level of the assembly process. Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) is a production tool that helps weed out flaws that will surface early in the life of the device. ESS is therefore an important part of the development process for any computer/electronic product, the goal being a step level change in product quality and durability.

ESS typically utilizes a combination of thermal cycling and random vibration, which is considered the most effective environment for precipitating latent manufacturing defects. Hundreds of labs worldwide utilize UD vibration shakers to meet their ESS requirements. UD works in conjunction with all leading environmental chamber companies to ensure successful integration and operation of the shaker and thermal chamber. Optional thermal interface hardware includes:

  • A silicone / neoprene thermal kit for vertical axis vibration
  • A G10 slip plate thermal barrier for horizontal axis vibration
  • Oil guard protection
  • Air casters for moving the slip table base
  • A remote start feature enabled from a temperature chamber contact closure

UD’s customers in the computer / electronics industry include:

  • Hewlett Packard
  • Cisco
  • Oracle
  • Dell Computer
