Head Expanders
Unholtz-Dickie offers a wide range of head expanders and head plates to maximize the versatility of any electrodynamic shaker. The head expanders are manufactured from light-weight magnesium alloys, providing high strength-to-weight ratio.
By increasing the mounting area of the shaker, multiple items can be tested at the same time, decreasing total test cycle time. In addition, with Guided Head Expanders, payloads with large foot prints can be safely mounted and tested on the shaker, minimizing the risk of damage to the shaker suspension system. Although many head expanders are resonant below 1000 Hz, average or extremal control allows operation to 2000 Hz. |

Standard Head ExpandersThe light-weight magnesium, cast head expanders provide reliable and effective solutions for any large, broadband package testing needs.(Displayed is model HE12-2424-8 Table Expander on a UD S452 shaker, expanding from a 12" diameter armature table to a 24" x 24" surface.)

Guided Head ExpandersTo test large, heavy packages, the Guided Head Expanders provide additional restraints and load support to handle tough transportation and other challenging test profiles.(Displayed is model TEG30-16: 30" diameter round head expander with linear guidance bearings and air bags (shown on an R16 shaker). This particular model can accommodate an additional 48" x 48" head plate on top, making it a highly versatile unit.)

Model TEG6060-24, shown on the T4000 shaker, supports up to 12,000 lbs (5,450 kg) of payload and utilizes (4) linear bearings located at widely spaced corner positions to optimize in-axis guidance and provide effective lateral restraint. This robust mechanical design features an outboard "Super Structure" that uses the massive shaker body to anchor the head expander's guidance system. It is an ideal system for large military hardware testing, low frequency transportation simulation and large geometry space hardware testing.
